Abstract

In this study, we aimed to detect prevalence of HBV and HCMV viral co-infections among chronic HCV patients and their effects on liver histology. We enrolled 60 patients proved to have chronic viral hepatitis C and 20 control patients for presence of HBsAg, HCMV IgM and IgG antibodies. We found that although their prevalence was higher in chronic HCV patients than non HCV patients, the difference didn’t reach statistical significance. Fibrosis and necroinflammatory scoring were higher in co-infected groups compared to monoinfected group.
