Neoplasms obstructing the biliary or pancreatic ducts present a major diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. MRCP can be used to establish thye presence and severity of the biliary and pancreatic duct dilatation, detect the length of the stricture as well as the exact location of the obstructing lesion. In malignant obstructions, MR imaging should not be limited to the evaluation of the bile ducts (MRCP), but should include a complete conventional study of the upper abdomen with acquisition of T1 and T2 WI.
