Establishment of the Skin Bank in the Kasr El Aini hospitals, along with the encouragement and support of the Center for Preservation and Transplantation of Musculoskeletal Tissues (CPTM), has contributed to multidisciplinary studies aimed at improving burn injuries, care and treatment. Research efforts have focused in two main arenas: a) Preservation and augmentation of viability of donated allograft skin, and b) Enhancement of our understanding of the biology of dermis and its interactions with epidermis and the wound bed.A total of about 15750 cm 2 was banked as living skin. The skin of forty cases was processed and cryopreserved using 10% dimethylsulphoxide, and thirty eight cases using glycerol 15% as cryoprotectant. All skin kept in electrical freezer at -60 ° C in CTPM.
