Fractures of the neck of the femur have always presented great challenges to the orthopaedic surgeons, so they called them (the unsolved fractures). Non-unions of the femoral neck are still estimated to occur in (10-20)% of femoral neck fractures. Diagnosis of nonunion can be made after only 6 monthes by the aid of C.T. & MRI which are helpful also in determining viability of the femoral head which is the most important factor affecting treatment of ununited fractures of the femoral neck.
