Abstract

EM consists of the quadriceps muscle and tendon, the patella, patellar tendon and supporting retinaculum. Injuries of EM may be due to acute trauma, overuse injuries or chronic degenerative diseases .Diagnosis depends on clinical evaluation, plain films, ultrasound and MRI. Numerous techniques have been described for treatment. The best results obtained by anatomical reconstruction of fresh disruption. For patellar fractures, the best results are reported after ORIF, while the worst choice is total patellectomy. Disciplined rehabilitation program is essential to decrease complication.
