Abstract

The Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) is the most common congenitalheart disease. Surgical closure of certain types of defects as apical, trabecular and multiple VSDs are associated with a high rate of morbidityand mortality so both surgeons and cardiologists prefer a non-surgicalapproach. Transcatheter closure of VSDs has been attempted since the1980s using different devices but with unsatisfactory results but recentlysince the development of the Amplatzer device the closure of VSDs hasbecome relatively safe and effective.
