VEGF has been implicated as a major contributor to the development of DR. Several SNPs have been thought to be associated with differential expression of VEGF. We aimed at investigating whether rs699947, rs10434 SNPs of VEGF gene are associated to DR in an Egptian cohort of patients with type 2 DM. There was no statistically significant association between the studied SNPs and DR. There are conflicting results in different populations which may be due to gene – gene interaction or gene – environmental interaction.
