Abstract

MRI is a sensitive modality for detection of gouty tophi giving proper localization and anatomical relations. It is very useful in the evaluation of the underlying joint disorders. Plain X- ray is more sensitive than MRI in detection of periarticular calcifications while MRI is more sensitive in evaluation of erosive bony changes. The signal patterns of tophi by MRI are suggestive rather than diagnostic for the lesion.
