Abstract

Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) activates and recruits monocyte into atherosclerotic plaque. A single nudeotide pdymonphism in the MCP-1 gene promoter (2518 A/G) results in greater production of MCP -1 protein. In our study investigated 30 patients with MI and 25 normal age and sex matched control. This study showed a significant but not Independent association between 2518 G/A polymorphism of MCP-1 gene and myocardial infarction (MI) in Egyptian population.
