Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most common types ofmalignancy in humans. Owing to the bad general condition of themajority of patients suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma, surgicaltreatment can be performed in only a small proportion of them .Thus, less invasive procedures represent an important option for treatmentof those patients. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a non invasivetreatment method for treating hepatocellular carcinoma. Theextracorporeal high intensity ultrasound waves are focused at thetumor resulting in its ablation without the need for insertion of anyneedles into the tumor. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a safe and effectivemethod for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma .More research willhelp further evaluation of this technique.
