Abstract

Family medicine has to find its place as a major player in the management plan of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus as a disease of high prevalence among the population, and affects both directly and indirectly the different aspects of growth in the society; needs community approach to be detected managed, and to be prevented or delayed. For individual approach for type 2 diabetes mellitus, prevention and delay of the disease among the high risk groups, primary management, and health education for the patients and their relatives are the main areas where the family doctor can contribute effectively. It is very important to develop a comprehensive management plan for the type 2 diabetes mellitus. This plan is to cover the community and the individual approach, and to pay attention to the prevention and health education for both the patient and the at risk groups.
