Abstract

The high prevalence of liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis & cirrhosis underscores the need for efficient & cost-effective treatments. The objective of this study is to assess the effects of licorice & silymarin as protective agents and compare their effects on CCL4 induced liver fibrosis in rats. protective mechanisms of silymarin & licorice were examined at 4 & 8 weeks. liver tissues were examined histopathologically and immunohistochemically for detection of alpha - SMA and NF-KB. There were improvement in licorice treated group more than that of silymarin treated group.
