Introduction: The incidence of well differentiated thyroid cancer (WDTC) is rising. The objective of this study is to present the changes in incidence, presentation, management and outcomes of WDTC within our institution over the past 15 years. Methods: 249 patients managed between 1995 and 2011 at Maadi armed forces hospital were identified from our institutional database. Results: There has been an increase in the number of patients managed per year. Although the median age was 45 years 47.8% were ≤ 45 years of which most of them were females (male: female ratio of 1:4.2) while 52.2% were > 45 years with male: female ratio of 1:4.4. Papillary cancer thyroid was the most frequent pathology with incidence more than 80. The mean ablation dose of RAI-131 was 75.3±31.4 with the higher doses for metastatic patients and patients with high risk stratifications. Only 77 patients underwent ultrasonography in their follow-up, most of them were in G3 with positive findings in all patients with TG more than 10. follow-up till the end point of the study; 3 additional cases developed deposits in lungs and bones, while 13 cases developed only recurrence in the operation bed. Death related to the disease state was encountered in 17 cases [approximately 7%] with lung and bone deposits. Conclusion: Our data suggest that properly given ablation dose with good response and absence of remote metastasis are the powerful predictors for excellent outcome in DTC patients.
