Abstract

Objectives: To compare the personality profile, anxiety, and sexual satisfaction in normal volunteers and patients with Erectile Dysfunction (ED) treated with Sildenafil Citrate and those treated with Intracorporeal Injection (ICI) home therapy. Methods: This is a cross sectional case control study. A total of 100 male subjects were recruited to participate in the study. The sample was divided into 3 groups: ICI Group included 30 patients complaining of ED & treated with ICI for a minimum of two months of regular sexual practice, Sildenafil Group included 30 patients complaining of ED & treated with Sildenafil Citrate for a minimum of two months of regular sexual practice, and a Control Group which included 40 normal subjects with no history of psychosexual illnesses. The 100 male subjects were interviewed and the following questionnaires were administered: Beck Anxiety Inventory, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and International Index of Erectile Function Questionnaire (IIEF-5).Results: When the ICI group was compared with the Sildenafil group, there was a statistically significant difference in the Beck Anxiety Inventory (p < 0.05)(higher in the Sildenafil group); however, there was no significant difference in sexual satisfaction scale (p = 0.148) or IIEF-5 (p = 1). Moreover, the Eysenck personality profile questionnaire did not show any significant difference in Psychoticism (P) (p = 0.265), Neuroticism (N) (p = 0.165), Extraversion € (p = 0.749), Lie (L) (p = 0.595), and Criminality © (p = 0.413).Conclusion: Anxiety is lower in patients treated with ICI compared to patients treated with Sildenafil Citrate. While no significant difference was found upon comparing the personality profile five dimensions: Psychoticism (P), Neuroticism (N), Extraversion €, Lie scale (L) and Criminality ©. Sexual satisfaction was higher in the Sildenafil-treated group C. No difference was found between the ICI-treated group & the Sildenafil-treated group upon comparing the IIEF-5 and the sexual satisfaction scores.
