Ultrasound biomicroscopy provides high-resolution in vivo imaging of anterior segment in a non invasive fashion. In addition to imaging tissues easily seen by clinical methods, it images structures otherwise hidden from clinical visualization, including the ciliary body and zonules. UBM was particularly useful in diagnosis of IPE cysts, in visualization of small ciliary body melanomas, in the differentiation of iris melanomas from iris nevi and demonstration of serous peripheral retinal detachment where association with ciliary body melanoma. So that UBM offers an accurate method to evaluate tumor shape, reflectivity and local invasion.
