Abstract

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is chronic, multifactorial autoimmune disorder where many genes have been tested for carrying the risk of development or the progression of this disease. The aim of the present study was to estimate the role of STAT4 polymorphism in development of SLE, and its possible association with its clinical manifestations and also to estimate the effect of STAT4 polymorphism on the prognosis of the disease. In this study no statistically significant association could be found betweenSTAT4 (rs7574865) polymorphism was not associated with increased risk of the SLE in a cohort of Egyptian SLE patients. Larger studies are required to elucidate the relevance of STAT 4 polymorphism in the development of systemic lupus.
