Abstract

Background: To Assess whether CRP level before intervention is prognostic in acuteempyema treatment. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective study on patients withacute empyema. CRP was measured before and 2, 7, 14 days after intervention. Results: 30patients were enrolled to the study. 56.6% had successful outcome, while 44.4% patientsshowed failure of treatment. Mean value of CRP before treatment in success group was75.8 and in failure group 89.6, p value was 0.4644. Conclusion: The difference betweenthe 2 groups is considered statistically insignificant.
