Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of endometrial volume measurement by 3D ultrasound in the diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia in women with peri-menopausal bleeding. Methods: Endometrial volume was measured by virtual organ computer-aided analysis in 40 women with peri-menopausal bleeding, and histopathological results of endometrial biopsies were obtained for all. Data obtained were correlated and analyzed to estimate the accuracy of 3D volumetry. Results: There were 19 (47.5%) cases with endometrial hyperplasia , 18 (45%) cases with disordered proliferative endometrium and 3 (7.5%) cases with atrophic endometrium, mean endometrial volume was 5.1, 3.8 and 1.6 ml respectively . a cutoff value of 4.35 ml was found to have a sensitivity of 84 % , specificity 86 %, PPV 66%, NPV 75% and an overall accuracy of 71 %.Conclusion: Endometrial volume is a good diagnostic tool in predicting endometrial hyperplasia in women with peri-menopausal bleeding.
