The present study was carried out to assess the relationship between decreased iron stores, serum iron and neonatal hypoglycemia in large for date newborn infants. The study included 30 large for date euglycemic infants and 30 large for date hypoglycemic infants and 20 normal control infants. These babies were subjected to full clinical examination, anthropometric measurements and the following laboratory investigations (blood glucose, hemoglobin serum iron, TIBC, ferritin and transferrin). The study showed abnormal distribution of iron in the body of the hypoglycemic large for date neonates in the form of decreased iron stores, serum iron and total body iron and increased erythrocyte iron.
