Abstract
Endophthalmitis is defined as a severe inflammation of the intraocular structures involving the ocular fluids (vitreous or aqueous humor or both). The cause of inflammation: infectious or non-infectious. It is divided into five categories: (1)Acute postoperative endophthalmitis. (2)Delayed-onset postoperative. (3) Post-traumatic endophthalmitis. (4)Endogenous endophthalmitis. (5)Endophthalmitis following an intractable infection of external coats of the globe. Diagnosis is done by obtaining intraocular (aqueous and vitreous) specimens and their cultures. Management options are: Antimicrobial Therapy, Anti-inflammatory therapy, Supportive therapy and Surgical therapy; Vitrectomy.
