Abstract

The menopause has been for a long time a serious problem for the females due to the declining levels of estrogen hormone which have been accorded central roles in the normal function of the cardiovascular, skeletal, central nervous and immune systems. The problem was partially treated by the use of hormonal replacement therapy, which leaded to many new side effects as endometrial cancers. This leaded the researches to the discovery of new group of compounds named “SERMs” (Selective estrogen receptor modulator) which have the advantages of estrogen as the cardioprotective property and with little or no side effects. The first generation of these drugs was tamoxifen used in treating breast cancer. The second generation is Raloxifene used in treating and preventing osteoporosis.Other new serms under trials as Toremifen, Droloxifene, Doremifene
