Abstract

The present study included 57 infants and children presenting with manifestations suggestive of vasculitis and control group of 15 infants and children. Patients where divided into 3 groups: patients with Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP), patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) associated vasculitis and patients presenting with manifestations of other vasculitic syndromes. ANCA was positive in 27.8% of patients with HSP. In patients with SLE-associated vasculitis ANCA was positive in 55.6% of patients, though there was no significant correlation with the clinical manifestations encountered. The third group consisted of isolated cases of vasculitis of variable etiologies.
