Stroke is one of the most common causes of mortality and long-term morbidity in the modern communities. With the improvement of stroke therapy, including thrombolysis, imaging modalities, which can provide early and accurate diagnosis, have become a must. In this study 30 patients with the clinical diagnosis of stroke were studied with a combination of Diffusion- and Perfusion-weighted MRI. These techniques proved to be sensitive and specific in diagnosing cerebral ischemia and exclusion of stroke-mimics. A variety of diffusion- and perfusion parameters were studied to gain insight into the process of cerebral ischemia.
