This study included 75 patients; 47 males and 28 females with male tofemale ratio of 1, 68: 1with renal failure who were subjected to hemodialysis atCairo University Pediatric Nephrology and Transplantation Center in the periodfrom 1/6/2005 to 30/6/2006. It included 18 patients of acute renal failure and57 patients of chronic renal failure. One hundred and sixty eight central venouscatheters were performed to these patients as a vascular access included 163 temporary catheters (45 IJV, 15 SCV and 103 femoral catheters) and 5permanent catheters (Permcath). Complications that occurred to these centralcatheters included infection (local and systemic), inadequate flow (catheterthrombosis or vein stenosis), insertion complications (such as arterial puncture,hematoma, hemothorax and catheter malposition), catheter slippage and catheterleak.
