Abstract

VTE is a multifactorial disease. This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of factor V Leiden mutation as well as FII 20210 G to A mutation as risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in young age group of patients. The study was done on 30 patients complaining of venous thromboembolism and 20 healthy age matched controls who have no previous history of VTE.They were subjected to:•Detaled history taking, including personal and family history as well as thrombotic history.•Routine lab data: liver function, blood cholesterol level and random blood sugar.•Coaguation profile including: Pt, Pt conc., APTT and APC- resistance assay.•DNA analysis to detect factor V Leiden mutation and factor II mutation. Prevalence of factor V Leiden mutation was (30 %) and control (5%). Prevalence of factor II 20210 G to A mutation was (6.7%) in the patients group and (0%) in the control group.
