Abstract

The aim of the study was to investigate the potential association between the single nucleotide polymorphism +405G>C of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene with the risk of endometriosis. The sample of the study was 100 Egyptian women tested for association in a case–control study of 50 affected women and 50 women with no evidence of endometriosis. Endometriosis was diagnosed by direct visualization of implants by laparoscopy and classified into stages according to the Revised American Fertility Society (R-AFS) classification (1996). Eight (8) ml of venous blood samples (EDTA) were taken from the peripheral blood of each individual .Genotyping for the +405G˃C polymorphism were performed using real time Taqman-based assays (Applied Biosystems, SNP ID rs2010963). The findings of this study suggested that there is no significant difference between cases and controls in the genotype and allele frequencies of the +405 C/G polymorphism (p=0.051&p=0.061, respectively).
