Abstract

Fetal abnormalities are one of the most common causes of perinatal and postnatal mortality and infant handicap. Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract accounts about twenty to thirty percent of all congenital malformation identified in the prenatal period. The ability to diagnose these malformations with the use of obstetric ultrasound examinations has contributed to the growth of perinatal urology. The visualization of renal vessels in the second trimester is known to increase the accuracy of diagnosis of renal anomalies in the fetus. Also the use of colour Doppler ultrasound of fetal renal artery gives us an idea about the integrity of fetal renal circulation.
