Aim of work: to test the sensitivity & specificity of the urea breath test (UBT) for the diagnosis of H. Pylori infection in Egyptian children ., methodology :30 pediatric patients indicated for upper GI endoscope were tested for the presence of H. Pylori infection using rapid arease test., histopathology examination of gastric biopsy , Elisa testing for anti – H. Pylori antibodies in the sera and UBT ., results: 26 patients (86.7%) proved to be positive for H. Pylori ., the most common symptoms related to H. Pylori infection were: recurrent abdominal pain, abdominal distention, heartburn and recurrent vomiting while the most common complications of this infection were understature and hematemesis, the sensitivity of UBT was found to be 92.3% and its specificity 100% ., conclusion : UBT is good diagnostic test for H. Pylori infection in children . in addition , it’s non – invasive nature is good advantage. However, it’s cost restricts it’s widespread use in developing countries.
