Abstract

Breast cancer is a major health problem that warranted efforts to be paidin order to increase the diagnostic capability of the routinely useddiagnostic aids. Contrast enhanced digital mammography and Ultrasoundelastography are of the newly introduced techniques that could increasethe diagnostic capability of conventional studies.Bilateral dual energy contrast enhanced digital mammography wasfeasible, easily accomplished and can significantly improve diagnosticquality. The potential clinical applications are the clarification of mammoand sonographically equivocal lesions, the detection of occult lesions onstandard mammography, particularly in dense breast, the determination ofthe extent of disease, the assessment of recurrent disease and themonitoring of the response to chemotherapy.Ultrasound elastography also can be a beneficial technique by whichultrasound BIRADS downgrading of benign lesions could be elicited, thus reducing the number of unnecessary breast biopsies. The routinely used method for classification of breast lesions according totissue elasticity is the color coding elastography score as well as the strainratio methods. However, ultrasound elastography has some limitations, such as operator dependency, inter and intraobserver variability andresults variability according to the internal structure of lesion beingevaluated. So the cases should be evaluated as a whole regarding thehistory, clinical data, sono-mammographic findings, and ultrasoundelastographic evaluation to attain the best diagnostic results, and to avoidfalse positive, and negative diagnoses.
