Abstract

This cross-sectional study aimed to measure the serum level of zinc and copper in patients with juvenile Systemic Lupus Erthromatosus (JSLE), correlate the levels of zinc and copper with the disease activity and correlate the levels of zinc and copper with the type of treatment. The study was done on 30 patients already diagnosed clinically with JSLE and was followed-up at the Rheumatology Outpatient Clinic, Children's Hospital, Cairo University. Thirty age and sex matched controls were included for comparison.Out of 30 patients, 10 were males (33.3%) and 20 were females (66.7%) with a male to female ratio (M: F) of 1:2. Out of the 30 patients 24 were in mild activity and 6 were moderate activity. The ages of JSLE patients who attended the clinic, ranged from 8 to 22 years with a mean of 14.3 ± 3.64 years.
