One hundred patients with lower limb critical ischaemia, hadbeen studied , using duplex scanning and arteriography before undergoingarterial reconstruction .Results of both techniques were compared witheach other and with data obtained intraoperatively. Forty eight patients had atherosclerosis, 24 had arteritis, 12 hadacute thrombosis, 2 had combined atherosclrosis and arteritis , 5 hadatherosclerosis and acute thrombosis, 9 had atherosclerosis and failinggraft. Age of patients having atherosclerosis ranged from 43 – 70years, arteritis from 22 – 58 years , acute thrombosis from 31 – 60 years,and failing grafts from 50 – 65 years. Sixty six percent patients had diabetes mellitus, 28% patients hadelevation of their blood pressure, 18% of the patients had hyperlipidemia. The study group included males and females , with different ages.They had different levels of arterial occlusions; 26 patients had rest painas the main symptom,2 male patients complained mainly of ischemiculceration of toes/feet, while 16 patients complained mainly of ischemicgangrene of their toes / feet. Three patients had rest pain and ulceration.Thirty two patients had rest pain and gangrene. Four patients had ulcersand gangrene. Seventeen patients had rest pain , ischemic ulceration and gangrene.
