Abstract

Mild Hypogonadism in men have been associated with features of the metabolic syndrome, the metabolic syndrome is a concurrence of insulin resistance, mild dyslipidemia , hypertension and visceral obesity. Objectives: to study the role of serum testosterone in middle aged men with metabolic syndrome.Methods: the use of enzyme chemiluminescent assay on the immulite autoanalyzer to measure testosterone level in middle aged men with metabolic syndromeResults: men with metabolic syndrome have lower total testosterone level and higher markers of inflammation than normal population. Serum total testosterone level was 28% lower in 50men with metabolic syndrome than in control group .Conclusion: Serum testosterone level and chronic low grade inflammation might have a role in diagnosis and prognosis of metabolic syndrome
