Abstract

In this study, salivary testosterone was assessed using ELISA andserum free testosterone was assessed using RIA in 70 women includingPCOS patients and normal controls. The results of salivary testosteronewere found to be highly correlated to those of serum free testosterone(r = 0.37, p=0.001) and to all parameters of PCOS like BMI, meanovarian volume and LH/FSH ratio. Salivary testosterone showed highlysignificant increase in PCOS patients than in normal controls (p<0.0001)and its sensitivity was 84% versus 66% for the serum free testosterone. Our study concluded that salivary testosterone is reliable in the diagnosisof PCOS.
