Complications of puncture site in peripheral endovascular interventions include , failure to achieve hemostasis , late external bleeding , arterial thrombosis , purulant discharge , minor ooze of blood , hematomas , immediate pain , delayed pain , pseudoaneurysm and arterio-venous fistulae . Less common complications included, abscess formation, mycotic pseudoaneurysm and retroperitoneal hematomas. Puncture site complications in peripheral endovascular intervention are common especially in anticoagulated patients. Prevention of all iatrogenic vascular injuries would be the ideal situation, and steps can be taken to approach that goal. Multiple passages into a vessel while attempting to cannulate must be avoided. Special care must be taken to enter the vessel at a proper angle and depth .Discontinuation of anticoagulants prior to angiography, and a cautious manner of compression of arterial puncture sites will further decrease the incidence of vascular complications. The most important factors in successful management of iatrogenic vascular injuries are early recognition and prompt correction.
