Abstract

Liver fibrosis is classified into 2 main types; congenital and acquired.Liver fibrosis is associated with major alterations in both the quantity and composition of ECM. The pathogenesis of liver fibrosis depends on theunderlying etiology. Hepatic stellate cells are the main ECM- producingcells in the injured liver. Following chronic injury, HSCs activate ortransdifferentiate into myofibroblast- like cells, acquiring contractile, proinflammatory and fibrogenic properties. The pig serum model induces liver fibrosis without severeinflammation. Because we would like to mainly focus on the effect t ofverapamil on activated HSC , we employed this model in the presentstudy
