We compared outcome and complications of three simple varicocelectomy techniques. Setting : Kasr El Aini Hospital. groups were: Ivanessivich (n = 55, group A), Tauber (n = 51, group B) and subinguinal sclerotherapy (n = 49, group C). Selection criteria were: infertility >1 year, subnormal semen and diameter of veins > 3 mm and time of regurge > 2 in sonography. Main outcome measure : Improvement in semen parameters. Pregnancy rates were 20 %, 13.73 % and 12.24 % respectively with no significant difference between groups. Recurrence rates were 10.91 %, 17.65 %and 4.08 % respectively. Other complications were: fever (0 %, 5.9 %, 4.1 %),small hematoma (5.5 %, 9.8 %, 0%) and wound infection (0 %, 2 %, 2 %)respectively. Hydrocele occurred only in group A (5.5%). Left testicular volume significantly increased for the three groups. Hydrocele never occurred in sclerotherapy groups indicating almost absence of injury to other structures of the cord. Tauber’s technique is a simple, requiring less time, skill and local anaesthesia, however it has the disadvantage of multiple branching small diameter veins. No difference in semen or pregnancy rates between the groups.
