Abstract

Background : the most common lethal myopathic disease is DMD, which isan x-liked recessive disease that affects 1:3500 males. Here we assessedwhether the levels of certain stem cells may predict the progression ofDuchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).Methode: The levels of several subpopulations of circulating stem cellsexpressing the CD 133 andCD34 antigens were determined in20 DMDpatients. The levels of CD 133 and CD34 stem cells were significantly higherin DMD patients compared to healthy controls.Conclussion: Our results suggest that levels of CD133,CD34 could functionas a new prognostic marker for DMD.
