Abstract

The intramedullary hip screw seems to be a promising alternative. Mid thigh pain can be partially solved by using the locking screws only in comminuted fractures and in situations which are liable to rotation. The use of only one locking screw instead of two seems advisable for these fractures. No statistically significant differences were noted in healing at 12 weeks or 6 months postoperatively, and both groups achieved comparable final functional outcomes. Thus, we agree with previous data that the endpoints of recovery with the intramedullary hip screw and compression hip screw are similar.
