Abstract

For many years speech-language pathologists have usedmeasurements of speech intelligibility as an index of oral communicationeffectiveness in speakers withdysarthria. The goal of the present research was to establish reliable and validprocedure for perceptually and acoustically assessing the speechintelligibility of dysarthric speakers by combining the results of acousticand perceptual analyses. From both clinical and research perspectives, perceptual and acousticalmeasures have been considered important methods for assessing theintelligibility of dysarthric speech.
