Abstract

The rate of infection by enteric protozoa among children was 45% Giardia lamblia by the Mallory stain and 22.5% Entamoeba histolytica and 11.7% Entamoeha coli by the Iron haematoxylin stain. The Zeihi-Neelson stain was only specific fpr Cryptosporidium parvum in 15%. Finally, it was worthy to mention that the direct smear method detected the low percentage of the intestinal protozoan infection in all the target parasites in comparison with the two concentration techniques. Meanwhile, the Iron-Haema-toxylin stain and the Mallory phosphotungstic haematoxylin stain gave the well characterized colouration for E. histolytica, E. coli and G. lamblia than the Trichrome stain. On the other hand, the Modified Zeihl-Neelsen stain was specific only for C. parvum.
