Abstract

The initial approach to treating asthma was via the systemic route, being easy with reliable drug absorption. However, with the emergence of side effects and non-specific targeting of inflammatory mediators, these medications were abandoned with the development of new therapeutic strategies that focus on bronchodilatation and attenuation of airway inflammation. In recent years, several new therapeutic agents have been developed to target specific components of the inflammatory process in asthma, although they have not yet been proven to be particularly effective. The aim of the essay to over view historical, recent and future drug therapies in bronchial asthma
