Abstract

Intrauterine growth restriction is a common diagnosis in obstetrics andcarries an increases risk of perinatal mortality and morbidity .Fetal growth restriction is defined as a birth weight less than the tenthpercentile for the gestational ages .The causes of intrauterine growth restriction are multiple , involvingmany different factors . Studies in human and animals have shown thatthe maternal environmental is the most important determinant of newbornweightIn IUGR not only the fetal size is affected but also the amniotic fluid &placenta may share the abnormality , so it was suggested to measure thetotal intrauterine volume ( TIUV) to detect IUGR
