Abstract

Surgical wound infections are a major cause of morbidity, prolonged hospital stay and increased expenses. Heat is one of the oldest physical modalities used to reduce and relieve pain. Although by themselves heat modalities may not lead to a cure, they are important additions to treatment. Localized heating produces a variety of haemodynamic effects.
