Abstract

Adhesions are abnormal fibrous bands of collagen. These fibrous bands form between injured surfaces of tissues and/or organs. The presence of adhesions in the abdomen or pelvis can lead to clinical problems such as chronic pelvic pain, bowel obstruction, infertility and complications during subsequent surgery. There are surgical and medical procedures that prevent adhesion formation including microsurgical techniques, laser endoscopic surgery, anti-inflammatory agents, antibiotics, intra-abdominal instillates, anticoagulants, Fibrinolytic agents, Adhesions preventive barriers, PROACT TM System
