Abstract

Hospitalization, being a modern trend in dermatology, has gained importance due to the introduction of pulse therapy in the treatment of some aggressive dermatologic diseases requiring long-term oral therapy with more side effects and complications. To bypass these problems, hospitalization is of utmost importance to supply those drugs by means of pulse therapy. These drugs include among others: corticosteroids, cyclophosphamide, novel immunosuppressants and drugs targeting tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α). There are also some dermatologic diseases that need emergency hospitalization, otherwise, death might supervene, these life-threatening diseases include among others: toxic epidermal necrolysis, cutaneous T cell lymphoma, psoriasis and immunobullous diseases. Hence, this essay was done aiming at throwing light on the great importance of hospitalization in dermatology thought for the whole past time to be an outpatient medical speciality.
