Abstract

Study was performed on 60 cases, 20 cases normalpregnancies, 40 cases were high risk, lamellar body count(LBC) in amniotic fluid was correlated to development ofrespiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in newborns to predictfetal lung maturity. Statistical analysis of the results foundthat (RDS) is more predicted with low LBC, and with usinga count of 45146/ml fetal lung maturity is diagnosed withspecificity 95% and sensitivity 100%. Hence LBC is a goodpredictor of fetal lung maturity.
