Abstract

The thoracolumbar junction is the most common site of vertebral fractures. Classification schemes are designed to relate mechanism of injury with fracture patterns, provide template for clinical research and guide treatment. . CT scan imaging can readily detect bony fractures and help with the assessment of the extent of fractures. CT scans are very sensitive and can identify even subtle fractures. Significant controversy exists regarding the treatment of the thoracolumbar fractures, especially when to intervene with surgery.
