Abstract

The goal of our study was to study the correlation of Doppler measurement of main renal artery, interlober and cortical resistivity indexes in cirrhotic patients with the presence or absence of ascites to see if these Doppler measurements can be used as predictor of the development of Hepatorenal syndrome. Multiple clinical and laboratory parameters were assessed at the time of the duplex Doppler ultrasound examination. The patients systolic and diastolic blood pressures were recorded, allowing for calculation of mean arterial pressure. Laboratory values included serum albumin, serum bilirubin, AST (Aspartate amino transferase), ALT (Alanine amino Transferase), serum creatinine concentration, and blood urea concentration. Creatinine clearance was calculated. Ascites was assessed by sonography and graded as absent, mild, moderate or severe. Encephalopathy was clinically assessed.
