Abstract

Diabetes mellitus describes several syndromes of abnormalcarbohydrate metabolism that are characterized by hyperglycemia. It isassociated with a relative or absolute impairment in insulin secretion,along with varying degrees of peripheral resistance to the action ofinsulin.There are many types of diabetes, type 1, type 2 and other typessuch as gestational diabetes.Diabetes Mellitus is one of the common morbidity that affectspregnant women. It has a major impact on both mother and the fetus asrapid progression of macro and micro vascular complications,spontaneous abortion, congenital anomalies, increased incidence ofcesarean section, preterm delivery, preeclampsia, neonatal jaundice,respiratory distress syndrome and perinatal mortality.
