Abstract

Laparoscopic appendectomy is safe and feasible. Despite that the operating time for laparoscopic appendectomy is still higher than that for open procedure, laparoscopic approach had several advantages over open appendectomy in that, it has less incidence of wound infection, shorter hospital stay, less need for post operative analgesia and faster return of patients to normal activities. Moreover, it is very useful in reaching an exact diagnosis in equivocal cases in females during their childbearing period. We must convert laparoscopic procedure to open surgery when indicated for the safety of the patient. A larger further study to evaluate the cost, benefit of laparoscopic appendectomy is recommended.
